Contract Genital Herpes
To contract genital herpes, there must be physical contact; transmission is the same for vaginosis or vaginitis.
Women carry significantly more risk (one in four) compared to men (one in five) since male-to-female transmission appears more efficient. Also neonatal infection is a small risk with a tragic outcome, when mothers are HSV active during later pregnancy. Infections are increasing alarmingly in those less than 25 particularly teenagers.

HSV-1 and HSV-2 is most contagious during viral active phase whereby either the virus is asymptomatically shedding or during outbreaks where viral replications are uncontrolled triggering lesions, pustules, or vesicles. Direct contact with an infected site during sexual intercourse or oral-to-genitals are the primary mode of transmission for HSV.
