Herpes genital picture photo is a useful diagnostic tool, and treatments such as pap smear and colposcopy are not used for this virus.
There are phases where the virus does show symptoms, is not always active, and is virtually undetectable. But, the virus can still be contagious during an asymptomatic phase, passed on without carrier awareness. It is important to remember because no treatment can totally prevent the spread of this disease.

HSV-2, mostly transmitted through sexual intimacy, progresses to episodes exhibited by lesions in and around the sex organs, anus, or sometimes the mouth. (HSV1 usually is associated within the mouth called cold sores.) HSV can remain hidden in host cells without observable signs but still be contagious during viral shedding.
