Embedded in the neural cells, the virus may initiate replication (viral shedding) referred to as a “silent outbreak”. No indicators exist regarding when this may happen. Blood tests only tell viral presence, not when it will activate. Current treatments only suppress the virus; they do not cure. HSV can be transmitted even when there are no visible symptoms or lesions.
