The herpes genitalis virus symptoms may sometimes be mistaken for urethritis or a urinary infection. Visible signs and the medical history of the patient suggest the cause pf the infection. However, sometimes tests are needed to determine the diagnosis since the symptoms may be similar to those caused by other diseases. Antiviral treatment is advised for people with recurrent outbreaks and those having an impaired immune system. Though both type of the virus (HSV-1 and HSV-2) can cause the infection, the latter is more likely to lead to the condition.
